Is this just a ploy by single straight dudes to get girlfriends, or are there really cute guys like Adam Fulrath, over there with Parappa, who claims his cat is his "primary relationship"? According to this New York Times article, men (straight men, even!) are coming out of the cat closet and admitting that, yes, real men do love cats. Says one male cat-lover, dogs are for dudes who need wingmen. “If you’re feeling insecure about your space in the world, you get a dog because he will always back you up,” he said. “He’s the insecure man’s best friend.” Haha! Where are these fabled cat men? I need me one.

Chick Adopted by Family Cat

A little chick in Middleton, England whose entire fuzzy family was killed by a fox was a adopted by Jane Etheridge's male cat, the 10-year-old Snowy. Jane brought Gladys (!) the chick home and found that Snowy and Gladys (I cannot get over that name) took a shine to one another. "Snowy cleaned her and washed her," Jane said. 2-1/2-month-old Gladys "comes in and bounces up and down in front of Snowy and he just stands there and takes it and puts his arm around her." OMG. Meow to Meow-th: Mass. Firefighter Revives Cat

Consider this my 9/11 tribute to firefighters. Every day, they risk their lives to save people — and as you'll see here, animals, too. Arsonists set an apartment in New Bedford, MA, on fire, killing a couple cats in the process. (Sad!) But ferrets, dogs, frogs (!), and this lucky cat were saved and revived by awesome firemen. At the beginning of this video, you'll see one sweet fireman stroking a dog as it lies on its side, while Al "my future husband" Machado gives mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to this cat. Then he just pets it. The sight of a big guy taking care of a helpless cat just makes me swoon. When asked what it tasted like to give mouth-to-mouth to a cat, he laughed and said, "Like fur." Tink the kitty isn't sure what to think of this remote control mouse. He's intrigued (the wide saucer eyes give him away) but he also seems a little alarmed (note the Shaolin monk sideways attack moves). Between the saloon-y piano music and Tink's ridiculous cuteness, this video is aces with me. (I also love the less spazzy cat on the stairs trying to figure out what all the fuss is about.)

Holy crap. Four hours north of LA exists a cat heaven called Cat House on the Kings. Run by a non-crazy cat lady who is crazy for cats, Cat House on the Kings is a non-profit, no-kill, no cage shelter for cats (and a few dogs) to roam free (inside and outside). They're up for adoption, but if no one does so they're free to hang out forever. And what animal wouldn't want to stay there? The wonderful Lynea Lattanzio has been trained as a vet, has ten feeding stations inside and outside, and just freaking loves animals. The guy who put this vid together says she's not a hoarder, or a proverbial CCL, she's just dedicated her life to animals. 16,000 cats and dogs can't be wrong!

Daisy the Sphynx cat (aka the hairless breed) is calmly watching as her brother Luke messes around with the family Chihuahua, Chacha, while "I'll Be Home For Christmas" plays in the background! 'Princess Chunk' Awaiting Owner at Camden Shelter

Oh, no! A 44-pound cat without a collar has been found, and the folks at Camden Shelter are going to put her up for adoption if she's not claimed by Saturday. They're assuming that the cat they've dubbed "Princess Chunk" and who they say is built like a linebacker, must have been fed by some overly-loving person. I concur. Let's hope overindulgent owner and cat are reunited, and that Princess Chunk goes on a diet! (She's about two pounds away from winning a fat-cat prize! Click here to read more.)
