Alesha Confides in Cosmopolitan About Looks, Love and Life

With "The Boy Does Nothing" in the top ten, and fresh from being crowned Ultimate Confidence Queen at The Cosmopolitan Women of the Year Awards last week, Alesha Dixon is Cosmopolitan's December cover girl. She chats about the reality of beauty and her own insecurities, how she bounced back from being cheated on by her husband and dropped by her record label in the same fortnight, and what the future holds now she's 30 and looking for love. Here are the highlights:

On her early insecurities: "When I joined my old girl band, Mis-Teeq, I was so insecure. We got our first record deal when I was 22 and I remember, from that moment until the day we split up five years later, we were caked in makeup … So when it came to taking a break and being normal, I wouldn’t recognise myself in the mirror. I hated how I looked."
On the reality of beauty in the celebrity arena: "The longer I spent in the music business, the more I had to get a grip on what was real and what wasn’t. It’s great fun dressing up and having 20 people around you to make you look beautiful, but it’s not real … I did a documentary on beauty earlier this year, which I got a lot of stick for because it looked like I was slating magazines. I wasn’t – I love magazines. I was trying to raise awareness that anyone could look as good as me if they had a glam squad around them like I have today!"
On what she has learned from speaking with women about body image: "We should stop using the word ‘flaws’ – why is it a flaw to have a scar or a mole? That’s what makes you different. I’ve never been one for dieting, either. I know there are some people who’d compromise what they eat to wear a certain outfit – but I’d rather eat a nice dinner than wear a crop top."

Jessica Simpson's big white smile matched her shirt on the December issue of Cosmopolitan. This cover is a bit of a change from her recent country looks, but Jess continues to open up on her favorite topics — boys, relationships, and honesty. Here's more:

On being interviewed: “I definitely know a lot more about myself from being asked questions and being forced to answer them truthfully. They make me face the reality of what people want to know. I’m see-through. And I’m the worst liar of all time.”
On Tony: "I'd always fall for guys I wanted to save. For the first time, I fell in love with someone who saved me."
On marriage: "I think any person who I'm gonna date for longer than six months, I definitely am investing in something long-term. If I get married again, then it will be the last time. Nick will always be a part of my life, but next time, I'm marrying the right one."

We'll have to wait a little longer to see if Jess changes her mind about taking Tony shopping for engagement rings, but in the meantime she can look forward to becoming an aunt as the next milestone.

Jessica Alba shows off her soft and girly side in the August UK Cosmopolitan. The actress and new mom opens up about her pregnancy, her surprise wedding, and how she never thought she'd end up where she is now. Here are some highlights:

On falling for Cash: "We met on the set of The Fantastic Four in 2005. I remember thinking right away, 'What a great guy.' The first week we got together, he gave me a note saying, 'I really, really like you.' And that was exactly how I felt. Cash believes, as I do, in taking life as it comes. Nothing was planned – the pregnancy or the wedding – but he took it in his stride and convinced me we’d conquer all! I love that. He makes me laugh more than anyone — and he's great looking too..."
On being pregnant: "I never felt less sexy. I mean, I wouldn’t have changed it for the world and my cravings weren't so bad — I craved citrus fruits, like lemons, oranges and grapefruit. But I wanted to get rid of all the weight. It was also a great happiness, though and I certainly didn't have any cravings not to be pregnant."
On what surprises her about men, and double standards: "How easily they're attracted to the obvious. All you have to do is dress up in a sexy outfit. When I went blonde for Sin City three years ago, I swear I've never had more male attention. [...] I don’t like double standards. I’d never use a man for sex but I can understand why some women would – and I don’t see why they should be criticized for having the same attitude as men."

Scarlett Johansson Is Simply Made for Monogamy

Despite one of Scarlett Johansson's two expected summer movies, He's Just Not That Into You being pushed back again until next year, she landed the sexy August cover of Cosmopolitan to help promote Vicky Cristina Barcelona. In the magazine, the newly-engaged actress opened up about her unassuming style and her successful love life. Here's more:

On keeping it simple: “I don’t normally think about being sexy. I think, Do I look presentable? Do I look sane?”
On her love life: "I've always been in monogamous relationships. . . monogamy can be hard work for some people. I don't think it applies to everybody, and I don't think a lot of people can do it."

It's been a few weeks since we've seen Jennifer Lopez out and about, but she's all over the magazines these days. She's not showing off her bump photoshoot-style just yet, but that doesn't mean she won't partake in the requisite excited talk about her growing family in UK Cosmopolitan. Awwwww all around. On her diva demands: "[Laughs] All that diva stuff was just so unreal. I never made demands like that. I would never ask for rooms to be painted white and I don't even know how to count the threads on sheets! Sometimes you can get stuck in a world and you don't know how to get out because it's all so crazy. But you learn — boy do you learn. Hey, I'm the Queen of Mistakes!"
On motherhood changing her life: I don't know about motherhood, but certainly being this happy has changed me. I feel so much more creative about music — now if people criticize my music it doesn't bother me because it's not the only thing in my life. I wake up and I don't groan, thinking of all the things I need to do. I'm just happy.

Last Thursday I was invited to an annual charity event hosted by the Guardsmen - a fraternity-like organization for young, professional men.
