Cute Alert: Boo Boo, The World's Smallest Dog

One-year-old Boo Boo the Chihuahua is Guinness Book of World Records' smallest living dog (in height). According to her owner in Raceland, KY, Boo Boo was fed with an eye dropper every two hours when she was a newborn one ounce pup. That's right—one ounce. I love her little expression which seems to say, "See the matchbox? I'm not much bigger. Love me, please."

Thanks, Spluch!

This is kind of sad to me- probably the product of inbreeding for the "smallest possible dog!" I would be concerned about medical conditions when it is that small.

I would so step on this dog in the middle of the night on my way to the bathroom, were she mine. She's a cutie (though I agree with CestLaVie as far as medical concerns and inbreeding go), but I can't be trusted with anything smaller than a Golden Retriever.

And WHY must people put dogs in clothes? Dogs don't need clothes to be cute!

    Sick and sad.

Dogs aren't accessories. Small dogs like that have health problems as well as skeletal problems.

    Ugh.

That's not cute. It's sad. Imagine the world from his frightened point of view.

AWWW! How cute. My dog (who will be 2 yrs old on New Years Eve) is 2lbs and smaller than a tv remote.

    LOL

    But Boo Boo beats that!

    Too cute.

I HATE when people spout off about something that they know next to nothing about without at least doing a little homework first. JUST SO YOU KNOW - My sister is Boo Boo's owner. She is a certified breeder and does NOT inbreed. Toy, teacup, and miniature breeds are not the effects of inbreeding. They result from mating the smallest from SEPARATE litters from DIFFERENT mothers and doing the same with their smallest pups until the desired size is reached. Boo Boo was a runt born prematurely and will stay small because of this and her applied genetics. Her brother is barely much bigger than her and he was full term. As for health problems, many breeds possess problems that come with the gene pool. Chihuahuas are not anymore subject to chronic health issues than any other breed. I personally had a friend who owned five of them and ALL of them lived to be at least 16. One made it 25, no kidding. It mainly depends on how well the owner takes care of them...just like children.

I recently saw boo-boo on the Oprah winfrey show, and your sister said she had raised Boo-boo since she was 2 days old on a bottle. The only reason i can see why the dog is so small is because she should have been raised with her mother and the rest of her brothers n sisters! It SICKENS me to see a dog soo SMALL and TIMID looking, get a real big dog who doesn't bark all the time and has a real PERSONALITY! I also think you need to DO YOUR HOMEWORK because Chihuahas do have more health issues than other breeds, all little dogs do. Oh yea id also like too see PROOF that a dog lived to 25 sounds like BS to me Pffft

Teacups are big business. While undoubtedly cute and often surprisingly good-natured, most owners don’t know the trouble that goes into crafting these hamster-sized dogs.

Trouble = spontaneous abortions, mummified pups, C-sections with 50% survivability rates (if they’re lucky enough to be cut in time), pyometra and peritonitis (if they aren’t), neonatal pup attrition (death), and long-term immunologic, orthopedic, cardiac, respiratory or gastrointestinal dysfunction (to name a few)—not to mention the unlucky breaks that come with being tiny—easy fractures, severe periodontal disease, hypothermia, hypoglycemia, etc…
