Would You Get a Tattoo of Your Favorite Candidate?

Holy commitment to the cause, Batman! A tattoo shop in Moore, Oklahoma is giving away free tattoos— of Barack Obama's face. The tattoo artist is an Obama supporter and says while he doesn't have money to give to the cause, he can donate his talent to help Obama-maniacs wear the Senators face — forever.

The artist says, "I'm a tattoo artist and a lot of people that are into the tattoo thing like free tattoos." He's done about 100 of those free tattoos, a black and white likeness of the Senator with the words Obama 2008 in red. Is this wildly creative campaigning and a testimony to the fervor the 2008 campaign has inspired? Would you transfer your ballot to your back?

Absolutely not. I would never get any tattoo, but if I did it would not be for a candidate.

I did buy a running shirt yesterday. It says "Obama. The Kenyan advantage." hahaha. There's one for McCain, too (and another one for Obama, which is a little biased, I do admit). But a t-shirt comes off after a run, a tattoo is permanent. Besides, what if your candidate turns out to be the worst president ever?

If any citizen sugar runners are interested, here's the link for the website.

I'm tried to get my Tom Tancredo '08 tattoo changed to one of those celtic designs. Now it just looks like a big smudge. Learn from me.

The only thing is the more I look at the actual tattoo I'm not sure it's that great. Maybe this guy is just using this to drum up some business because he's not a great tattoo artist.

i second the 'HELL NO' comments. i think that it's a bit insane to go that far to support your candidate. i can understand that some people are whole heartedly behind one person or another - but that's extreme. you know how they say that getting the name of your sig. other is like the kiss of death to your relationship - well isn't this kind of the same thing? wow - i can't believe that there are over 100 people so far that's done it.

i used to think that it was insane that athletes got the olympic rings tattooed to them but that's at least something to recognize what they've worked for their whole life...

i once dated a guy who among other bizarre images and phrases, had the word "F*cker" tattooed on his chest, and a smudge of ink on his ribcage that he said was the tasmanian devil on LSD. now, HE might do something like this because clearly he has no standards, but me? nooooo way.

It's so funny how many Obama icons there are now! They're so small, it looks they're all just supporting him unless you really look closely.

haha, hausfrau, i didnt ever get the whole story. when i saw the tasmanian devil one i told him "well clearly you have no care what is tattooed on your body, so i won't even ask". he's kind of a rockabilly-type/greaser guy... i think he just liked the idea of having something that stupid tattooed on himself? we only went out a few times so i guess i'll never know!!

by the way, until he took off his shirt he was REEEEALLLY cute... but once i saw the tattoos i was disappointed. i myself have zero tattoos, and having been a teen and early-20-year old in the 90s i feel like THAT is counterculture at this point!!

I don't think this is a good idea at all... I don't even like it when people wear politically themed t-shirts... especially since most of them are uninformed and just trying to be trendy... I think this will be another trend and will in no doubt boost the tatoo removal industry in a few years

Even if you believe it's a once in a lifetime event that will change the world, I would feel really dumb with a Reagan '80 tattoo about now.

I might let my wife do this, just so that I can tease her when he doesn't win, and I could tease her about for the rest of her life....

I won't even put a bumper sticker on my car because it's too permanent!

No way! While this election is going to go down in history..., so has every other election and so will all the future elections. I definitely will not mark my skin with the face of any politician, ever! I don't plan on ever getting a tattoo, especially not one like that. Sad

Haha, good point. At first I thought it was a cute idea...

Maybe if you already had a ton of tats, and you were looking for another.

Hehe, I love my 3 tattoos but no way in heck would I tattoo myself with a candidate of any party.

Not only is it sort of tacky, but all politicians (of both parties) are just a little bit too dorky to be inked.

(then again it can't be worse than that dude who had a croissant tat on his arse that looked like a poo.)

Its funny though, I have seen inks of famous people such as Che or MLK, and I don't think twice about it...tattoos are so personal that I suppose some people ink what they feel they should, be it abstract or more concrete in subject matter.

UGH no. I still lament my decision to permanently ink an achor with u.s.n inked onto my shoulder blade.

Not really. I guess in the end it was a huge part of my life and it documents that. Its not very big anyway and guys think it's hot. I also have the comedy and tragedy faces next to it...and then a vine of flowers on the top of my foot. ooooh mama that one hurt!

I have one of Joe Piscopo because I thought back in 1983 he was going to be the next big thing and I wanted to be the first to get one. Now I tell people I have an embarrassing scar so I don't have to take off my shirt.
